Over the last several days I’ve talked to my colleagues, friends, people I serve at the non-profit where I work. About Trump. White supremacy. What happened when Trump called for white supremacists to come take over our beloved DC. Where over 700k of us live. Work. Raise kids. I have been saying lately, as a white person, I will stand up to these white supremacists. That I will challenge racism where I hear it in words. In conversations.

I get the same honest true answer.

“Adriana, you should have been standing up for us a long time ago. You and all the white people should have been doing this. We just don’t believe it anymore.”

I thought about it. Fuck. That’s so true. Why wasn’t I standing up to racist white trash my entire life? Why would any person of color think it will be any different?
